Q: Where do I go for late-season flu vaccine information?
A: The Center for Disease Control has the latest information for late-season flu vaccine.
Q: What can I do if I don’t get the flu shot?
A: You can do the following to help keep yourself and your family healthy:
- Get a pneumonia vaccination. Pneumonia vaccinations are available and recommended for anyone 65 years or older and for individuals 2 65 years with chronic heart and lung problems, other chronic diseases or are immune compromised. If a person received a first dose prior to age 65, a single revaccination at age 65 is given if it has 5 years or more have elapsed since the previous dose. Cost is $28 at the Malheur County Health Department office.
- Practice good hygiene every day:
- Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze, then throw the tissue away and wash your hands.
- Clean your hands often. It’s recommended that you wash your hands with soap and warm water for 15 to 20 seconds. That’s about the time it takes to sing the “Happy Birthday” song twice.
- Get plenty of sleep and physical activity, drink plenty of water and eat a good diet that includes fruits and vegetables, to stay healthy all year long.
- Model these practices and remind your children to practice these healthy habits.
- If you are sick, stay home and take care of yourself.
